•The Alphabet Game
Skill Application: Braille letter recognition
Object: To be the first player to return to start

Materials:

  • Mat board
  • 1” Braille graph paper
  • Alphabet letters brailled on clear labels
  • Several texture dots
  • Playing pieces
  • Die
  • Braille paper

Cut the graph paper in strips to create a “path” on the mat board. Glue into place. Place several texture dots in random spaces. Place an alphabet letter in the remaining spaces. Label one end as “start”. Make a set of cards that tell the player to move to a specific letter.

 To Play:

  • Each player places his/her game piece on the “start” space.
  • One player rolls the die and moves accordingly
  • If the player lands on a letter, the letter is read
  • If the player lands on a textured dot, he/she draws a card and follows the instructions on the card (E.g. Move to the letter “g”)
  • Game continues until the first player or all players are back to start.
