• Million Dollar Word Game
Skill Application: Phonics
Object: To be able to take apart a long word and apply phonics skills.

Materials:

• Word cards with long but decodable words (taken from the student’s texts/workbooks )
• Non-slip pad
• Strips of paper that say “Word Buck”
• Reward

To Play:

• The student draws a “Million Dollar Word” and tries to read it.
• If correct, the student discards the card and receives a “word buck”.
• If incorrect, help the student apply phonics skills to figure out the word and then discard it.
• If the student receives a specified number of “word bucks” he/she can turn them in for a reward.
