• Go Fish
#1 Skill Application: Tactile discrimination: same/different Objective: To collect fish by correctly naming shapes as same or different.
Materials:
Cut out fish (with a hole punched near the mouth for the hook to go through) labeled with pairs of same and different braille shapes
A “pond” (a large lid or bowl works well)
Toy fishing pole
To Play:
The player places his/her fishing pole in the “pond”.
The teacher places a fish on the hook and tells the student that he/she caught a fish.
The student takes the fish off the hook and determines if the shapes are the same or different.
If the student responds correctly, “It’s a keeper!” If the student responds incorrectly, the fish is returned to the pond.
The child can count how many fish were caught at the end of the game.
#2 Skill Application: Letter identification/letter sounds Objective: To collect fish by correctly naming letters.
Materials:
Cut out fish (with a hole punched near the mouth for the hook to go through) labeled with letters.
A “pond” (a large lid or bowl works well)
Toy fishing pole
To Play: The game is played as above except the student identifies letters. After the letter is read, the student gives the fish a name that starts with that letter sound.
