Creating Educational Fun for Kids with Visual or Learning Disabilities
Most of the games are made so that the teacher can reinforce any skill that needs practicing: vocabulary words, braille contractions, math facts, and more! You make up the cards and the games will provide the fun!

Skill Application: Using the abacus for addition
Objective: To finish the game with the highest number.

Materials:

  • Mat board with 1” graph paper around the perimeter. Random numbers written (in braille, large print, clear labels) inside the boxes.
  • Abacus
  • Die
  • Game pieces

To Play:

  • One player begins by rolling the die and moving accordingly.
  • The player notices the number under his/her playing piece and sets that number on the abacus.
  • On his/her next turn, the player adds the new number to the previous number.
  • The game continues until the players have been around the board at least once. (It can be decided before playing how many times around the board the players will move.)
  • The players compare the numbers on their abacus. The player with the highest number is the winner.
